Montana Literature Students analyze Native American oral tales and examine past booms and busts: furs, exploration, cattle, mines and homestead leading to today. The journey covers 200+ years. Students evaluate historical time frames and differing viewpoints and examine Montana's ties to the larger world and the legacies of many cultures. They explore several genres: oral tales, diaries, letters, essay, stories, poems and drama/films. Discussion uses critical thinking to evaluate issues: environmentalism, colonialism, multicultural, aboriginal and women's rights, and Hollywood's impact on Montana. |
