Principles of Macroeconomics

A study of the variables used to measure the performance of our economy, the fiscal and monetary policies implemented to manage it, and the role global economies now play in affecting our own macro policies. A considerable focus of the course is on the role of international trade and finances, especially as it relates to the emerging economies of China and the European Union. The productivity and competitiveness of the U.S. economy relative to other economies are also studied. Students will examine various theories concerning macro-management of the economy, and will develop an ability to interpret economic indicators used to assess the health of the U.S. economy. Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to explain the role international trade and finance have on macro policy and performance.
