New Course Numbers Beginning Fall 2009
IMPORTANT: New numbering in certain subjects (see list below) only affects names and numbers, it does not affect course content or degree requirements.
The Montana University System is moving to common numbering for all undergraduate courses for all public institutions in Montana.
 
What this means:
All public colleges and universities in Montana will use the same subject abbreviations or rubric (the letter codes that indicate the course subject), numbers, and titles for courses taught on more than one campus.
and:
Most FVCC rubrics and numbers WILL CHANGE as implementation moves forward. Those that will change for Fall 2009 (beginning with early registration in Spring 2009) are listed below.
 
Completed Disciplines

Accounting:All ACCT courses are now ACTG
Chemistry:Most CHEM courses are now CHMY
Computer Applications:Some CASC, CMPA and CS courses are now CAPP
Economics:All ECON courses are now ECNS
English:Some BUS, CJ, ENGL and ID courses are now WRIT (Writing) or LIT (Literature)
Geography:All GEOG courses are now GPHY
Geology:All GEOL courses are now GEO
History:All HIST courses are now HSTA (American History) or HSTR (World History)
Language:Most LANG courses are now CHIN (Chinese), FRCH (French), GRMN (German), ITLN (Italian), RUSS (Russian), SIGN (Sign Language) or SPNS (Spanish)
Mathematics:All MATH and some ID courses are now M (Mathematics) or STAT (Statistics)
Political Science:All PLSC courses are now PSCI
Psychology:All PSY courses are now PSYX
Sociology:All SOC courses are now SOCI
